A recently published report in the UK suggests that disease forecasting for well people, through blood and DNA testing and diagnostic imaging, may have some damaging effects. In an era where pre-symptomatic diagnosis and lifelong treatment may be the next paradigm shift in medical care, the conclusions of the report are of concern for ‘future patients’ as two possibilities exist: of providing well people a false reassurance that they will not develop a disease, or incorrectly predicting that they will.
